Mitchell Starc picked two wickets and conceded 20 runs in three overs against Oman.

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has provided huge update on their premium left-arm speedster Mitchell Starc. The veteran pacer left the field during the Group B clash against Oman at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 6 (Thursday).

After being asked to bat first, Aussies managed to put up a competitive total of 164/5 on a slightly sluggish Barbados surface. Travis Head (12), skipper Mitchell Marsh (14) and Glenn Maxwell (0) failed to deliver with the bat.

However, the experienced duo of David Warner and Marcus Stoinis stitched a crucial partnership of 102 runs, which bailed the Aussies out of a dangerous situation. Warner played a fighting knock of 56 runs in 51 deliveries. All-rounder Stoinis stayed till the end and played an unbeaten knock of 67 runs in just 36 balls,.

During Oman chase, pacer Mitchell Starc set the tone in the first over with a brilliant yorker to dismiss opener Partik Athavale for a golden duck. Stoinis and Nathan Ellis also took wickets in the powerplay as Oman were reduced to 29/3.

Ayaan Khan (36) and Mehran Khan (27) tried to get as close as possible to the target, but Marcus Stoinis’ three-wicket haul restricted them to 125/9 while chasing 165 runs. Stoinis was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Just a cramp, don’t want to take chance: Mitchell Marsh on Mitchell Starc’s injury

The incident happened during the 15th over of Oman’s innings, when Australian pacer Starc went off the field after bowling just one delivery, which was a wide. His over was then completed by off-spinner Glenn Maxwell.

After winning the match, skipper Marsh cleared that Starc was having cramps, so he went off the field, and they don’t want to take any chances ahead of their next match against arch-rivals and defending champions England on June 8.

“Took his time and showed his experience. Starcy was just a cramp so didn’t want to take a chance. When Starcy says I am okay to go off you let him go off. We are looking forward to playing England. Different conditions here. Oman v Australia was a tight one, great for the game of cricket. There is sun here and we will enjoy that. It’s going to be a great game,” Mitchell Marsh said in the post-match presentation.
