Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been in the limelight ever since the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 started. The right-arm pacer has missed all the four games for franchise, which has acted as a big blow for them.
Pathirana, who was bought by KKR for a massive INR 18 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, missed the initial games due to injury, which he sustained during the T20 World Cup 2026. His absence has been a significant setback for the franchise, especially given the bowler’s struggles for consistency in the early matches.
Matheesha Pathirana receives NoC from SLC, to join KKR in Chennai – Reports

Nevertheless, recent reports in Revsportz indicates that the speedster has recovered fully and the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has given him NOC to take part in the league.
The reports claimed that Pathirana will join KKR team in Chennai ahead of their next game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 14. This could be a big boost for the franchise, who are struggling to get going under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane.
KKR have faced challenges in their early season, especially in their bowling department, and the addition of a specialist death bowler such as Pathirana is likely to have a significant impact on their balance. With his stingy action and ability to execute yorkers, which have earned him the title of Baby Malinga, he is already proving himself to be an important T20 commodity.
While an official confirmation from KKR is still awaited, all indications suggest that Pathirana’s return is imminent. The Sri Lankan pacer will be set to make his debut appearance for KKR against his previous franchise and would be keen to help his team get to winning ways.
