Mayank Yadav started his IPL career with two consecutive Man of the Match awards in his first two games of the IPL 2024.

Mayank Yadav made headlines when he made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Punjab Kings and bowled a fiery spell of 3/27. He made everyone take notice of his bowling with his sheer pace and ability to bowl consistently over 150 kmph.

Yadav proved that his debut performance was not a fluke by bowling another dream spell in this second game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and bagged figures of 3/14.

In his first two games, he took six wickets and won two consecutive Man of the Match awards. He bounced batters out and rattled the stumps, dominating them with his extraordinary pace.

Yadav became an overnight star. However, he suffered an injury after two games and was ruled out of the remainder of the season. In four matches, he took seven wickets at an economy rate of 6.99 and bowled the fastest delivery of the IPL 2024 at 156.7 km/h.

Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey urges BCCI to make Mayank Yadav play in domestic cricket

Mayank Yadav’s ability to bowl at high speeds made a number of former cricketers advocate for him to be fast-tracked into the Indian team. Unfortunately, because of his injury in the IPL, he’s still out of action and rehabbing at the NCA.

According to some former cricketers and fans, the BCCI should consider Mayank for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series in Australia in December-January even though he’s played only one first-class match in his career so far.

The former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey believes Mayank Yadav should play plenty of domestic cricket to test his body before the BCCI thinks of picking him for the Indian team.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Mhambrey said, “I don’t agree that if he is not ready, just don’t play him. This is the age where he has to bowl. The more you bowl, the more you will have control. You can’t wrap him up in cotton wool, saying he will get injured. As a fast bowler, he needs to play first-class cricket. I strongly feel Mayank needs to grind it out in the domestic season.”

The former bowling coach also commented on Mayank’s injury-prone body. Mhambrey feels that the pacer needs to play the red-ball format, which will help him to grow as a complete bowler.

“He’s only 22. His body is still developing. He is in that injury-prone age-group. His body has not completely developed yet. His injuries can be controlled if we understand his background well, ” he added.
