Jay Shah is highly likely to replace current ICC chairman Greg Barclay in December 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah is all but confirmed to replace Greg Barclay as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

The apex cricket council has confirmed that current ICC chairman Greg Barclay will step down from the post once his term ends in November. The new chairman will take charge from December 1, 2024.

During the ICC’s board meeting, the apex cricket council said that the current directors need to submit nominations for the next chairman by August 27, 2024. The ICC further confirmed that if there is more than one nomination, then elections will be held.

“Current directors are now required to put forward nominations for the next Chair by 27 August 2024 and if there is more than one candidate, an election will be held with the term of the new Chair commencing on 1 December 2024,” the ICC said in a statement after its Board meeting.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah is close to becoming the new ICC chairman without election as nobody is expected to contend against him.

“For the election to proceed, at least one additional candidate must enter the race and it’s not clear whether there will be a contest at all. It will depend on what Mr Jay Shah decides. If he files nomination, there will be no election. He will be elected unopposed,” an ICC source told Cricbuzz.

Shah has not made any comment yet on the recent reports surrounding him potentially becoming the next ICC chairman.
