Australia opener Mitchell Marsh scored 121 runs in 108 balls with 10 fours and 9 sixes.

Australian opening batters did a magnificent job against Pakistan's bowling lineup to add 259 runs for the opening wicket. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh (121) had a run fest against Pakistan and smashed them all over the park with so much ease. Warner and Mitchell Marsh smashed 21 fours and 16 sixes in their 33-over partnership.

Mitchell Marsh had a special day to celebrate with a magnificent power-hitting century. Australian all-rounder celebrates his birthday on 20th October. Now after scoring a magnificent century on his special day, he became only the 2nd batter after New Zealander Ross Taylor to smash a century on his birthday in the World Cup. Coincidentally, Ross Taylor’s century also came against Pakistan in the 2011 World Cup at Pallekele.

Mitchell celebrates birthday in style

Mitchell Marsh is 6th batsman overall to smash a century on his birthday in ODI cricket and joined the elite list of Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Tom Latham, Vinod Kambli, and Ross Taylor. Apart from Ross Taylor, all others have scored in a bilateral or in a tri-series tournament. Mitchell Marsh is celebrating his 32nd birthday and there will not be any better celebration than to raise his bat toward the Australian dressing room after touching the 100-run mark.

Mitchell Marsh scored 121 runs off 108 balls with 10 fours and 9 sixes. Boundary contributions in Marsh’s century suggest that he was in a party mood against Pakistan at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Along with Marsh, his opening partner David Warner also went on to smash his 4th consecutive ODI century against Pakistan. David Warner smashed 163 runs off 124 balls with 14 fours and 9 sixes.

David Warner (163) and Mitchell Marsh (121) could have broken another world record if the pair had added 34 runs more in their opening stand. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh’s 259 runs opening stand is the second-highest opening partnership in the World Cup. Sri Lanka’s Tilakratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga hold the record for highest opening partnership (282) for the first wicket in the World Cup.
