KKR speedster Mitchell Starc bagged Player of the Match award in both Qualifier 1 and final of the IPL 2024.

While he had plenty of ordinary outings during the league phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mitchell Starc turned on the heat on the batters in the playoffs. The lanky Australian speedster who was bought for a record sum of INR 24.75 crores at the IPL 2024 auction displayed his big-match pedigree in Qualifier 1 and the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to storm Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third IPL trophy.

Starc had taken 12 wickets at an average of 33 during the league phase of the tournament this year. But the left-arm seamer delivered two sensational spells with the new ball in Qualifier 1 and the final against Hyderabad, returning with match-winning figures of 3/34 and 2/14 respectively as KKR downed SRH comfortably in both these games. He set the tone for KKR’s victory in the first over of both encounters, by dismissing Travis Head in Qualifier 1 and Abhishek Sharma in the final.

Starc bagged the Man of the Match awards in both Qualifier 1 and the final, proving that he deserves every bit of the INR 24.75 crores that KKR splashed on him at the IPL 2024 auction.

How much money did Mitchell Starc earn per wicket in IPL 2024?

Starc concluded his IPL 2024 season with 17 wickets in total. Since he was brought for INR 24.75 crores at the auction, he earned INR 1.45 crore per wicket this season.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer hailed Starc for stepping up in the big games.

Iyer said about Starc, “That [big games] is when all the big players stand up. It was a high-pressure game. He has been so good off the field. He has never shown any sort of complacency in his work ethic. Every time we used to go for the plunge pool, he used to be there… something for everyone to learn.”
