Rohit Sharma smashed 28 runs off Mitchell Starc at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Australia veteran pacer Mitchell Starc opened up on brutal power-hitting India captain Rohit Sharma during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 clash between Australia and India at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.
The incident happened during the third over of India’s innings when Rohit hammered 28 runs off Starc’s over. Rohit started the over with a huge six-over deep extra over and did the same on the very next ball. On the third ball of the over, Starc once again bowled a slot, and Rohit lofted over mid-on for a boundary.
On the next ball, Rohit smashed Starc’s delivery for a maximum. On the last ball of the over, Rohit then hit another four. The Australian speedster Starc ended up giving away 29 runs in the over, including one wice. However, the left-arm pacer had the last laugh when he dismissed Rohit for 92 runs.
Rohit had a good tournament, especially in our game: Mitchell Starc
The left-arm speedster Starc had a poor outing against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 clash. Starc finished his four-over spell with figures of 2/45.
The 37-year-old Rohit’s quick-fire knock of 92 runs helped India post 205/5 in 20 overs. In reply, Australia managed to reach 181/7 as they lost the match by 24 runs.
The Australian speedster has now opened up on his forgettable over against Rohit at the T20 World Cup 2024. Starc expressed that Rohit had a good tournament but had a brilliant outing against the Aussies in the Super 8 clash.
“I’ve played a lot against him (Rohit). He had a good tournament, especially in our game. I think he targeted that wind in St. Lucia as well. If you look at the runs from each end, one end went for a lot more than the other. I bowled from that end. I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for six,” Starc said in LiSTNR Sport podcast.
Starc further revealed that the total set by the Indian side was a bit over par. The Australian pacer added that the St Lucia wicket was one of the best pitches in the T20 World Cup 2024, and they could have chased down the target if there were no hiccups while batting.
“We thought it (total) was a little bit over par, but it was the best wicket in the World Cup which we played on in terms of runs scored. It wasn’t probably the quickest wicket in the West Indies but definitely the best wicket which we played on. Certainly chaseable. We were on target for a while but a couple of hiccups and some good bowling from them set us back,” Starc added.
