Mohammed Shami has been out of action since the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

Indian speedster Mohammed Shami has been out of action since the conclusion of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, good news for Indian cricket fans is that Shami has begun training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ahead of the home season of the Men in Blue.

During the ODI World Cup 2023, the right-arm pacer suffered an ankle injury, but he went on to play the whole tournament. Shami took injections and painkillers with the consultation of doctors at the NCA.

The ace pacer Shami was the highest wicket-taker at the ODI World Cup 2023 and he played a huge role in helping the Indian cricket team reach the final of the tournament.

After the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023, the 33-year-old Shami was monitored by the BCCI medical team and then he underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon in February 2024.

The cricketer missed the five-match test series against England at home earlier this year. Shami then missed the Indian Premier League 2024 edition as he was still recovering from his injury.

After that, BCCI secretary Jay Shah provided a crucial update regarding Shami’s injury. Shah said the Indian pacer will miss the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, but added that the 33-year-old pacer might return for the upcoming two-match test series at home against Bangladesh in September.

Grinding for the greatest: Mohammed Shami eyes international comeback

Team India are all set to play the away white-ball tour against Sri Lanka starting from July 27. The Men in Blue will play a three-match T20I series and as many ODIs against Lanka. It is understood that Shami will not be part of the series as he is yet to recover fully from his injury.

After the Sri Lanka series, India’s home season will kickoff with Bangladesh touring for a two-match test series and a three-match T20I series. The tests will be played from September 19 to September 27, whereas the T20Is are scheduled from October 6 to October 12.

Ahead of the Bangladesh test series, Indian pacer Shami shared a video on Instagram where he was spotted bowling in the nets at the NCA. The pacer was seen jogging before bowling, which indicates that he is yet to regain his full fitness.

Shami captioned the post: “Vibing with the latest, grinding for the greatest.”
