Glenn Maxwell ended his IPL 2024 campaign with a golden duck in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
RCB had been on a miraculous run by winning six games on the trot to qualify for the playoffs. However, their dream run ended on Wednesday night.
In the Eliminator, RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to field first. Chasing teams have an advantage in Ahmedabad due to dew and the pitch gets better to bat on in the second half of the match.
RCB managed to score a below-par total of 172 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored 33 runs off 24 balls, Rajat Patidar scored 34 runs off 22 balls and Mahipal Lomror scored 32 runs off 17 balls.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals chased down the total with one over to spare and won the game by four wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 45 runs off 30 balls, Riyan Parag scored 36 runs off 26 balls and Shimron Hetmyer scored 26 runs off 14 balls. Rovman Powell added the finishing touches with 16 runs off 8 balls. RR will now play against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2 in Chennai. The winner of that game will play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final in Chennai.
Tom Moody slams Glenn Maxwell for reckless shot in RCB vs RR Eliminator
Glenn Maxwell, the swashbuckling Aussie batter, has had a poor season with the bat for RCB. He disappointed the RCB fans yet again in the Eliminator by playing a questionable shot off the first delivery that he faced. Ravichandran Ashwin tossed up the delivery on the off stump and Maxwell tried to go big. However, he mistimed his slog and it went straight into the hands of Dhruv Jurel at long-on.
Former SRH coach Tom Moody criticized Maxwell’s shot selection and called it “reckless.” Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Moody said: “I think at the moment, where he is at with regards to his form, it was reckless. If he was in red-hot form, I don’t have an issue with him hitting that first ball straight for a six because 19 times out of 20, he would hit it for a six.”
“It’s a bit like what we’ve seen [Shivam] Dube do for CSK. First ball, in his arc, bang goes for six. They are all up applauding it. Maxwell is the same, but Maxwell is not in that sweet spot when it comes to form. So, I put that down as reckless cricket and an absolute brain fade.”
