MS Dhoni has won the IPL five times as CSK captain in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.

The renowned keeper-batter and former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni, has been working out diligently to prepare for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. For several years, there have been speculations over Dhoni’s future with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

MS Dhoni has been participating in the IPL, despite retiring from international cricket in 2020. He still led the CSK to IPL titles in 2021 and 2023, before handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, after the failed experiment of Ravindra Jadeja as captain.

MS Dhoni had to captain CSK in IPL 2025 as well when Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered a fractured elbow. Despite his brilliant captaincy record, CSK finished at the bottom of IPL 2025 points table, for the first time in the league’s history, losing 10 games out of 14.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan had confirmed a few days ago that despite the rumors of MS Dhoni retiring, the legendary keeper-batter will be playing for CSK in IPL 2026.

Now, a Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) official has revealed the regimen that MS Dhoni has been following for the last two months to get in shape for IPL 2026. To be ready for the tournament, MS Dhoni is working on his power game and has been spending quite some time in the gym as well.

Dhoni has suffered from knee issues in his right leg and even underwent surgery after IPL 2023. He also played with a visible limp in his right leg in IPL 2024, and one of the reasons given for his batting so low down the order for CSK was that he didn’t want to run much between the wickets due to knee issues.

His routine has been fixed for the last two months. He comes to the stadium at 1:30 pm, hits the gym for an hour, then pads up and does power-hitting training in the nets for two hours.

If the centre wicket is available and no match is happening, he also does match simulations. Mahi signs out after a swimming session for another half an hour. He leaves the complex at 6 pm. He is just doing the Mahi things that he has done all his life — working hard,” a JSCA official in anonymity told Times of India.

MS Dhoni has played 278 IPL games, scoring 5439 runs at a strike rate of 137.45 with 24 fifties to his name. He has hit 375 fours and 264 sixes in his IPL career with 158 catches and 47 stumpings.
