Mumbai Indians' overseas bowler Jhye Richardson is ruled out of IPL 2023 with hamstring injury.

Struggling Mumbai Indians have announced Riley Meredith as a replacement for injured Jhye Richardson. Australian pace bowler Jhye Richardson was ruled out of the entire season due to a hamstring injury. He recently underwent surgery and is currently going through rehabilitation. Mumbai are facing a double blow in their pace attack. Earlier, Mumbai’s X-factor Jasprit Bumrah is also out of the season due to a back injury. Kerala’s Sandeep Warrier was picked as Bumrah's replacement. Mumbai have been struggling since the last season due to their bowling.

Riley Meredith replaces Jhye Richardson

Australian pacer, Jhye Richardson has very little experience playing in the IPL. Richardson played for Punjab Kings in IPL 2021. He was bought by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 Auction. Another Australian, Riley Meredith was part of the MI setup in the previous season, has now replaced the country-mate in the MI squad. Meredith has played 13 games in the league. He was also part of the Punjab Kings in IPL 2021. Meredith’s selection will surely give MI some confidence in bowling. Archer needed support against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first game.

Five time Champions Mumbai Indians were hopeful of Bumrah and Jhye Richardson’s participation in the later part of the league. Now with both of these bowlers being out of the season, they have put Mumbai in trouble once again. Jofra Archer had to stay out of the action for IPL 2022. Archer’s absence made MI bowling vulnerable for the entire season and they finished 10th in the points table.

Mumbai Indians need to find a way to get out of their losing streak. Since last season they have been struggling to gain momentum. They suffered a heavy defeat against RCB at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Mumbai will take on their Arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings on 8th April.
