Mumbai Indians have parted ways with Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson ahead of IPL 2027. The franchise announced the departure on October 29 as it continues to reshape its coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season.

The changes come after MI finished ninth in IPL 2026, managing just four wins in 14 league matches. The five-time champions will look to bounce back strongly next season and build a stronger team.

Earlier this month, Mumbai Indians also parted ways with head coach Mahela Jayawardene. Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been promoted from batting coach to head coach for IPL 2027.

MI announced the exits of Malinga, Mhambrey and Hopkinson from their respective roles in the men’s team coaching setup. The franchise thanked them for their contributions and wished them well for the future.

In its statement, Mumbai Indians said, “Their commitment, the relationships they have built and the memories they have helped create will always be part of our journey.”

Malinga has been one of the most important figures in MI’s history. The former Sri Lankan fast bowler played a key role in four of the franchise’s IPL title wins and its 2011 Champions League T20 triumph.

After retiring as a player, he returned to Mumbai Indians as a mentor before taking up the fast-bowling coach role ahead of IPL 2024. His departure marks the end of his recent stint with the franchise.

Mhambrey first worked with Mumbai Indians from 2010 to 2017 before returning in 2024. He helped develop the team’s bowling resources and also served as India’s bowling coach from November 2021 to July 2024.

Hopkinson joined MI ahead of the 2025 season after working with the England men’s team. As fielding coach, he brought international experience to the franchise and focused on improving the team’s fielding standards.

With these three exits following Jayawardene’s departure, Mumbai Indians have made major changes to their coaching setup ahead of the next season. Pollard will now lead the team as the franchise prepares for the IPL 2027 mini-auction.
