Mumbai Indians need to win both of their remaining games to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
The Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced their replacements for the khelnow.com/cricket/category/ipl 2025 playoffs: Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch will depart India to join their national team following MIโs last league stage match.
Jacks has been picked for Englandโs white-ball squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies. Meanwhile, Rickelton and Bosch are on South Africaโs test squad for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final against Australia.
Hence, MI were forced to sign temporary replacements. IPL has established new regulations for temporary replacements, as replacement players would not be eligible for retention in IPL 2026.
After the IPL was suspended, many overseas players refused to rejoin their franchises, prompting the temporary replacement term. The substitutes will be available for the remainder of the competition.
Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Charith Asalanka join Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025
The five-time IPL winners MI, have replaced fellow Englishman Jacks with an English wicket-keeper hitter. For just the playoffs, Jonny Bairstow will cost INR 5.25 crores to join the team.
Rickelton will be replaced by Richard Gleeson, another English player, on Mumbaiโs team. For INR 1 crore, Gleeson will join Mumbaiโs team.
At a reserve price of INR 75 lakhs, Charith Asalanka, the captain of Sri Lankaโs T20I team, would take Corbin Boschโs place. Despite not being sold in the mega auction, Bairstow, Gleeson, and Asalanka will now have the chance to participate in IPL 2025.
While Gleeson played for the Chennai Super Kings the previous season, Aslanaka will be making his IPL debut.
Despite playing for the Punjab Kings the previous season, Bairstow did not fare well in the 2024 IPL. After the Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai will be his third franchise.
MI still in the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans have already earned a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs. There is currently just one playoff slot left.
The only two clubs still vying for the last berth are the Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians. MI will play Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in their last two games and they currently have 14 points from 12 games.
The five-time champions will automatically advance to the playoffs if they win their next two games; if they lose both, they will be ousted from the competition.
