Mumbai Indians (MI) strongest playing XI for IPL 2025
Mumbai Indians finished 10th in the IPL 2024.
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) had a terrific Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction and would have come out of the auction room one of the most satisfied franchises.
While they had a terrible season last time, under new skipper Hardik Pandya, MI look poised to enter the playoffs this time, and possibly even add a sixth IPL trophy to their cabinet.
They had retained their core of Indian players: Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma – all five proper match-winners – and used their one RTM card on Naman Dhir, a power-hitter who had a strike rate of 177 in seven games he played for them last season.
Mumbai’s most expensive purchase at the mega auction was Trent Boult, who was a key part of their title-winning side in IPL 2020 and formed one of the best pace-bowling duos with Bumrah. MI also went hard at Deepak Chahar, who is known for his swing bowling with the new ball.
The acquisition of Boult and Chahar is a remarkable move by Mumbai as this would then allow Pandya to reserve two overs of Bumrah for the death overs and not use him for more than one over in the powerplay on most occasions.
Over the last four IPL seasons, in which they reached the playoffs only once, a major issue for Mumbai was the lack of quality in their spin department. They have boosted it by roping in Mitchell Santner, a tidy bowler known for his economy, and Allah Ghazanfar, a mystery spinner from Afghanistan who has taken 29 wickets in 16 T20 matches at an average of only 11.
The MI owners looked most pleased with the acquisition of Will Jacks, who they got for INR 5.25 crores as RCB didn’t use their RTM on Jacks. Jacks has been in dazzling T20 form since last year and had struck a 41-ball century in IPL 2024.
This year’s talent to watch out for in the MI squad is Robin Minz, who is being hailed as Jharkhand’s Chris Gayle. He is a left-handed middle-order batsman and wicket-keeper whose latest outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was 36* (12).

Rohit Sharma, Will Jacks, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (C), Naman Dhir, Robin Minz (wk), Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Allah Ghazanfar, Jasprit Bumrah (Impact Player: Trent Boult)
