Musheer Khan and his father’s car jammed into a median on the outskirts of Lucknow on Friday.

Musheer Khan, the Mumbai all-rounder and younger brother of India batsman Sarfaraz Khan, suffered an accident on Friday on his way to Lucknow along with his father and two other persons.

A statement from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has said that Musheer sustained “a fracture in the neck region” in a road accident on the outskirts of Lucknow on September 27.

Musheer Khan was travelling from his hometown Azamgarh with his father and two others to Lucknow for the Irani Cup, which will start on October 1 when his car, a Toyota Fortuner, collided with a median and toppled, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Musheer Khan to miss Irani Cup, could miss initial rounds of Ranji Trophy

The 19-year-old Mumbai all-rounder suffered a neck injury. He was admitted to a hospital but is now out of danger. A statement from the MCA said that Musheer is “stable, conscious, and well-oriented” now.

“Once Musheer is deemed medically fit for travel, he will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and additional medical treatment,” the MCA statement said.

“The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) medical teams are closely monitoring his progress to ensure he receives the best possible care.”

It is certain that Musheer Khan will not play in the Irani Cup, which will be played between the last season’s Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai, and the Rest Of India team. Further, he could miss a few rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season as well.

This injury comes at a time when Musheer’s star is rising. In nine First Class (FC) games, Musheer has scored 716 runs at an average of 51 with three centuries, including a best of 203*. Recently, in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024, the youngster played a terrific knock of 181 runs against India A.

In last season’s Ranji Trophy, he plundered a double-hundred in the quarter-finals, a half-century in the semi-finals, and a century in the final to help Mumbai lift the title.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz has been released from India’s test squad after not being picked in the XI for the Kanpur test against Bangladesh to play in the Irani Cup.
