Rajat Patidar made his ODI debut for India in the 3rd ODI vs South Africa in Paarl.
India and South Africa are taking on each other at Boland Park, Paarl. The third and the deciding ODI is witnessing both teams giving it all to claim the series. South Africa won the crucial toss and opted to bowl.
With the series hanging in the balance, India made strategic changes to their lineup. Ruturaj Gaikwad missed out from being part of the game, which made way for debutant Rajat Patidar, and Kuldeep Yadav was replaced by Washington Sundar. The alterations were a gamble, aiming to turn the tide in India’s favour and clinching the series.
Nandre Burger gets the wicket of Rajat Patidar
The game took an interesting turn in the fifth over when Nandre Burger found himself in the spotlight. Patidar, in his ODI debut, displayed early promise by smashing a six and a four off Burger’s deliveries. The debutant seemed poised to make a significant impact on the match.
Burger wasn’t one to back down. On the fourth ball of the over, after being hit for ten runs, Burger produced a delivery that showcased his resilience. An overpitched delivery, swung back in sharply after pitching. Despite being on the receiving end of Patidar’s aggressive shots, Burger maintained his composure.
Patidar, attempted another powerful stroke, ended up getting his leg stump castled.

Patidar’s cameo on his ODI debut came to an end with a commendable 22 runs off 16 balls. The young batsman’s aggressive intent and fearless approach hinted at a promising future in Indian cricket.
At the time of writing, India are batting on 50/2 after 8 overs.
