Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be ruled out of action for 6-7 weeks due to injury.

India’s stand-in T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav suffered a massive ankle injury against South Africa in the final T20I game played at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. SKY after a brilliant century knock was unable to take the field for the maximum period on South Africa’s chase and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had to take the charge in his hand.

Suryakumar Yadav has suffered a grade II tear on his ankle and is likely to be ruled out of action for 6-7 weeks. India’s next assignment in T20I cricket will begin on 11th January against Afghanistan. India will be playing 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan as their final international assignment ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup set to take place in June.

Suryakumar Yadav will miss the Afghanistan series

According to a media report, Surya underwent a scan last week when he returned from South Africa. As per the scan reports that came in Surya will be making fit for a comeback in the first week of February. A source on Indian board revealed, “He will take some time to recover. He will have to report to the National Cricket Academy later to do his rehabilitation. He is surely going to miss the Afghanistan series.”

Team India have tried six different captains in the last year after the semi-final loss against England in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. With Hardik Pandya still injured, Indian management are likely to look at 7th option to lead the side against Afghanistan in January. Ravindra Jadeja will likely be trusted with a leadership role in Surya’s absence.

India’s assigned T20I skipper is still Rohit Sharma but he has not played a single T20I game after the semi-final loss against England in Adelaide. The next ICC event is just 6 months away from now and India are left with only 3 T20I games and team management are yet to decide on who will be the leader of Indian camp in the T20 World Cup 2024.
