New Zealand lost their first two matches against Afghanistan and West Indies.

The Kane Williamson-led New Zealand are having a forgettable ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign as they have failed to clinch a single victory so far, with their players underperforming in both the matches they have contested.

The Kiwis had reached the final and semi-final of the last two editions of the T20 World Cup, in the UAE and Australia, respectively. However, the Black Caps won’t even go through to the Super 8 round in the ongoing tournament in the West Indies and the USA.

Even though New Zealand have two games left in the group stage, they have been eliminated from the race to the Super 8 round.

Are New Zealand eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024?

Yes, with Afghanistan and West Indies both winning three matches each, New Zealand have suffered a group-stage exit and won’t be able to reach the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Williamson’s side started their campaign with a huge loss to Afghanistan by 84 runs in Guyana. Chasing 160, the Kiwis were bowled out for only 75 runs. In their next game against co-hosts West Indies, the Black Caps fell 13 runs short of West Indies’ total of 149.

Both West Indies and Afghanistan have defeated New Zealand, Uganda and Papua New Guinea to collect six points. New Zealand can now only reach a maximum of four points.

After the loss against the West Indies, Williamson said his side needed to play better cricket in all departments. He said, “Sitting, waiting to play and then to play sort of two in quite quick succession and what has been challenging from a number of perspectives and two very strong teams.

He added, “Yeah, frustrating, absolutely, to start the way we have. The conditions are the same for everybody, so it’s trying to learn.”

“I think if we look at the two matches to start off, no doubt they’ve been disappointing. You come to a world event; you want to start well. And to be honest, we needed to have been better in these conditions specifically.
