"He is once-in-a-generation bowler.." Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey on Jasprit Bumrah

Paras Mhambrey’s tenure as India bowling coach ended after ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Since making his international comeback in August 2023 from injury, Indian ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has played a massive role in Indian cricket team‘s success across formats. The right-arm pacer was well managed by the former India head coach Rahul Dravid and his support staff.
In the ICC Cricket ODI World Cup 2023, Bumrah played a huge role in helping the Men in Blue reach the final. In 11 games, Bumrah picked up 20 wickets at an economy of 4.06.
In the ICC T20 World 2024, the 30-year-old Bumrah had a dream tournament. In 8 matches, Bumrah took 15 wickets with a stunning economy of 4.17. Bumrah’s performance helped India lift the trophy and also end the men’s 11-year-long ICC title drought. The right-arm pacer was also awarded Player of the Tournament for his fantastic outing with the ball at the global event.
There is really not much to do with Bumrah: Paras Mhambrey
During Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach, Paras Mhambrey was the bowling coach of the Indian cricket team. However, along with Dravid, his contract also ended after the Men in Blue lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in Barbados.
During his tenure as bowling coach, Mhambrey worked with Bumrah at various levels, helping the Indian speedster became one of the greatest bowlers in world cricket.
However, Mhambrey believes that there is really not much to do with the 30-year-old Bumrah. The former bowling coach also praised the right-arm speedster, saying he is a once-in-a-generation bowler in all three formats of the game.
“I don’t think I have had to do much with him. I would love to say that I’ve worked on him a lot as a bowling coach. What better than Bumrah performing and I taking the credit? But I don’t. I’ve said in the past… he is a once-in-a-generation bowler. India has produced great bowlers, and more will come, but Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation bowler in all three formats,” the former India bowling head coach Mhambrey told Vimal Kumar in an interview.
Mambrey added that Bumrah has exceptional skills and understands his game clearly. The former India bowling coach said that the 30-year-old reads the game quickly.
“Be it the red ball, ODI, or T20I, he is No1. He has exceptional skills. He understands how bowling well, has clear plans. When I talk to him, I realise that he has a very clear mindset and knows what he is going to do. He understands when a batter is uncomfortable facing him. He then tries to exploit the situation. He will pick up small nuances to guess what the batter is trying to do,” he added.
