SRH signed Pat Cummins for a whopping INR 20.5 crores, making him the costliest player in the IPL history.
The much-awaited auction for the 17th edition of Indian Premier League is underway in Dubai. This event has already made some players millionaires in the first two sets. But who would have thought that IPL 2024 auction would break all the previous records? Before this event, Englandβs Sam Curran was the most expensive player in the history of IPL auction.
He was signed by Punjab Kings at a price of INR 18.5 crore in the IPL 2023 auction. But now, this tag belongs to Australian captain. Pat Cummins has now become the costliest player in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad went after him at the auction and finally signed him at a record-breaking price of INR 20.5 crore.

As soon as the name of Australian captain came out, a few franchises were interested in him. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings started bidding, and Royal Challengers Bangalore joined in. Then, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad that also joined in to make this more interesting. It became very intense when Cummins crossed the 15-crore mark. But eventually, SRH acquired him for a record-breaking price of INR 20.5 crore.
Pat Cummins previously had a deal of INR 15.5 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022, so it was expected that he would be one of the most expensive players in the ongoing auction. But his skillset, captaincy, and all-round ability have certainly gained him a life-changing deal. After getting picked by SRH, Cummins shared his reaction through a video clip, which was shared by the franchise on their official Twitter handle.

Notably, 2023 has been a superb year for Australian captain. He led his country to wins in the World Test Championship and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and he also retained the Ashes. And now he has become the most expensive player in IPL history. Well, only time will tell if this deal will be fruitful for SRH or if it will be a blunder of all time.
