Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will make India comeback during the Australia ODIs.
Australia captain Pat Cummins has described the upcoming ODI series against India, which begins on Sunday in Perth, as crucial, stating that it may be the “last chance” for Australian fans to witness superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in action in this nation.
Both Rohit and Virat have retired from T20I and test cricket, although they continue to play in the ODI format.
Cummins, 32, will watch from the stands after being sidelined by a back issue. Rohit and Kohli have been named to India’s ODI squad for the three-match series.
India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series beginning on October 19, 2025, in Perth’s Optus Stadium. The remaining two matches will be held in Adelaide on October 23 and Sydney on October 25.
“Whenever we play them, the crowd gets loud,” Pat Cummins on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma playing in Australia
India will play a formidable Australian team at home in this series, which will be a major task. As the squad becomes ready for the future, it also enables Virat and Rohit to participate as older players, sharing their experiences with the younger lot.
The BCCI officials stated that form and fitness would be the basis for evaluating Indian cricket veterans. Given that Virat and Rohit are not assured spots for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2027, the selectors have both players in a precarious situation.
“Virat and Rohit have been part of almost every Indian side for the last 15 years, so this might be the last chance for the Australian public to see them playing out here. They’ve obviously been champions of the game for India and are always very well supported. Whenever we play them, the crowd gets loud,” Cummins told JioHotstar.
Cummins also stated that he was disappointed at missing the series, which also features five T20Is that begin from October 29.
“It’s a shame to miss the white-ball series against India. I think the crowds are going to be huge. There’s already a lot of excitement built up here in Australia. So, whenever you miss a game, it’s disappointing. But missing a big series like this is always a bit harder to take,” he added.
When will the AUS vs IND ODI series begin?
The first AUS vs IND ODI will be played on Sunday, 19th October.
