Under Trevor Bayliss, the Punjab Kings finished ninth in the IPL 2024 season.
In a latest development, Punjab Kings (PBKS) are all set to part ways with their head coach Trevor Bayliss ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, according to a report in Cricbuzz.
In IPL 2024, the Punjab-based franchise had a horrible tournament. PBKS played 14 league stage matches and won just five games. The franchise got 10 points and finished at ninth position. The Kings haven’t won the IPL so far and the last time they reached the playoffs was in the 2014 edition.
Australia’s Trevor Bayliss set to part ways with PBKS
Recently, the Delhi Capitals (DC) ended their ties with their head coach Ricky Ponting after DC failed to reach the IPL 2024 playoffs. It seems that another Australian is expected to lose his coaching position ahead of the next edition of the IPL.
According to the latest report in Cricbuzz, the Preity Zinta-owned franchise is likely to part ways with their current head coach Bayliss as they are now searching for an Indian coach for the upcoming IPL season.
The report further added that the Punjab-based franchise is now considering several Indian options, including Sanjay Bangar, who was previously the head coach of the side and is currently their director of cricket development.
The report also stated that the Punjab franchise received no complaints about Bayliss’ coaching style, but since the Aussie couldn’t deliver a playoffs finish in two seasons, they are strongly contemplating his removal.
It is understood that under Bayliss, PBKS didn’t meet the owners’ expectations, as they finished eighth and ninth in the last two seasons despite boasting a formidable squad.
