ICC Champions Trophy was last played in 2017, where Pakistan had defeated India in the finals.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on July 5, 2024, unveiled the tentative dates for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is to be hosted by Pakistan. This will be the first ICC tournament since the 1996 World Cup, that Pakistan will host.

Recently, PTI reported that Mohsin Naqvi had submitted a draft of the schedule of the Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will feature Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa.

The draft schedule saw the tournament beginning on February 19 with the final scheduled on March 9. These dates have now been announced by the PCB, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to unveil further details of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in due course, which includes the schedule of the tournament as well.

The matches have been divided between three venues; Seven games in Lahore, three in Karachi, and five in Rawalpindi. The opening game will be held in Karachi. The semi-finals will be divided between Karachi and Rawalpindi with the final taking place in Lahore.

All of India’s games are scheduled in Lahore including the semi-final if India qualifies – Reports

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) provisional plan calls for the headline Pakistan vs India match to be played on March 1 in Lahore as part of next year’s Champions Trophy, according to a senior ICC board member. The ‘Mini World Cup’ returns after eight years, running from February 19 to March 9, with a ‘Reserve Day’ of final on March 10.

All of India’s games have also been set to take place in Lahore which includes the semi-final should India qualify.

According to the same reports, India are grouped alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand in Group A, while Group B includes Australia, South Africa, England and Afghanistan.

BCCI is yet to confirm Team India’s participation in the Champions Trophy or agree on the tentative schedule. The Indian board has stated that their journey to Pakistan for the ICC event is dependent on obtaining clearance from the Indian government.

The last time Pakistan hosted a tournament was the Asia Cup 2023, but they had to settle with a ‘Hybrid Model’ with the Indian team playing all of their games in Sri Lanka after the Government of India denied permits to cross the border.
