Jos Buttler scored 35 before getting dismissed by MI’s seasoned campaigner Piyush Chawla.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) are hosting Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 38th match of the ongoing Indian Premier Leauge (IPL) 2024. The match is being played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 22, 2024.

MI came into this match placed seventh on the IPL 2024 points table, while RR are at the No. 1 spot with six wins from seven games and 12 points. MI captain Hardik Pandya, who is playing his 100th game for the franchise, won the toss and chose to bat first.

However, the decision failed to bore fruit as Rohit Sharma (6) was dismissed by Trent Boult in the first over itself, while Ishan Kishan holed out to Sandeep Sharma for a duck. Suryakumar Yadav followed soon for 10 runs as Sandeep Sharma rattled the MI top order.

Tilak Varma held fort at one end, while Mohammad Nabi (23) added 32 runs for the fourth wicket. But the biggest partnership came between Tilak and Nehal Wadhera, who made 49 in 24 balls. Together, they added 99 runs for the fifth wicket.

Tilak Varma made 65 in 45 balls to help MI post 179/9 in 20 overs. For Royals, Sandeep Sharma starred with 5/18, while Yuzvendra Chahal became the first bowler to take 200 wickets in IPL history.

Piyush Chawal gives MI the first breakthrough after rain intermission

RR openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal started well as they added 74 runs for the first wicket in eight overs. There was a delay of more than 30 minutes due to rain in Jaipur and MI immediately got a breakthrough after the break.

MI captain Hardik Pandya brought on Piyush Chawla into the attack and the wily leg-spinner gave MI their first wicket. The victim was Jos Buttler, who was looking in dangerous form. He had made 35 runs with six fours. On the final ball of the eighth over, Chawla got the better of Buttler with a googly.

Buttler tried to punch the ball going back in his crease, but the ball kept low and snuck under his bat to hit the off-stump.
