MI might release some big names from their squad ahead of next season.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have given a dismal performance in the Indian Premier League 2026. They started the tournament with a victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but completely lost the plot after that.
MI were the second team after LSG to be eliminated from the tournament. Despite having some big international stars in their squad, they failed to outplay opposition teams. They even lost both the matches against their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings.
The Hardik Pandya & Co. also looked vulnerable at their home venue. With nine defeats and four victories out of 13 games, Mumbai take the ninth spot in the points table with eight points.
Hardik Pandya struggled with his form in IPL 2026
Captain Hardik Pandya’s struggles with bat and ball were highly visible in the tournament. In nine games, he could only score 172 runs at an average of 21.50 and a strike rate of 128.35, failing to score any fifty. He has got four wickets at an economy of 11.43
Key players like Suryakumar Yadav, Sherfane Rutherford, Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur also struggled with their form in the season. Notably, the five-time champions made it to the playoffs in the last season but completely flopped this year.
The five-time champions have not won the title or made it to the finals for six seasons in a row. Pandya has also struggled with his captaincy over the last three years.
