3 players who could replace Nitish Reddy in Indian squad for England & Ireland tour

Nitish Reddy reportedly has been ruled out of England & Ireland tour.

The Indian Cricket Team will be touring Ireland for a two-match T20I series, starting on June 26 before moving to England to face them for five T20I matches and three ODI matches. The team faces a new challenge in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2027 and then the Olympics as well as the T20I World Cup in 2028.

India‘s premier all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, is already out of the tour after sustaining an injury while representing the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Nitish Kumar Reddy was selected in his place and was seen as someone with a similar skill set who could find his own place in the team. However, he also got injured while playing against Afghanistan in the ODI series.

His quadriceps injury has now aggravated, and, as per reports in Times of India, he has been ruled out of the tours of Ireland and England. This comes as a major blow to the team management as they continue to look for all-rounders who could possibly replace Reddy on the tour.

On that note, let’s have a look at the probable three players who can replace Nitish Reddy in the Indian squad for the Ireland and England tour.

3 possible replacements for Nitish Reddy in the Indian squad for Ireland and England tour

3. Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer last represented the India in 2022, but after that, he was never seen as a valuable option by the team management. Having featured in only nine T20I matches and two ODI matches so far, Iyer could find his way back into the team as he recently helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) win their second IPL title.

Iyer played a major role in the success of his franchise in the IPL. After sitting on the bench for most of the games, he finally found his place in the main team following the injuries to Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell.

However, he did not let the management and fans miss those players, as he made great impact with the bat. Iyer also bowls right-arm medium pace and can be seen as someone who could possibly replace Nitish Reddy in the squad.

2. Krunal Pandya

Another all-rounder who can replace Nitish Reddy is Krunal Pandya. Krunal also last played for the national team back in 2021 and then failed to cement his place in the side. However, after having back-to-back great seasons in the IPL, Krunal has emerged as one of the top options for an Indian squad call-up.

Krunal helped RCB win two back-to-back titles, giving his best with the ball while also contributing with the bat. A player with his skill set is also among those who could be called back by the Indian team, and that opportunity might come soon as they look to replace Reddy.

1. Suryansh Shedge

The front-runner to replace Nitish Reddy in the squad for the Ireland and England tour is Suryansh Shedge. Shedge has been in very good form throughout the IPL and then for the India A team that won the tri-series in Sri Lanka.

He provides the option of a strong hard-hitting batter who can also bowl medium pace, which makes him a perfect replacement for Nitish, offering a similar skill set.

Shedge has consistently shown that he can play aggressively while also doing the hard job of building an innings. The 23-year-old has age on his side, and he is quickly emerging as a top all-rounder option for the Indian team management.

Why has Nitish Reddy been ruled out of the England and Ireland tour?

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the England and Ireland tour due to a quadriceps injury.

When is the Ireland T20I series starting?

The Ireland T20I series is scheduled to start on June 26. India will play a two-match T20I series against Ireland before travelling to England for a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series.
