Top 10 players with highest salaries in IPL 2024
World Cup winning pacer Mitchell Starc was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for a mammoth sum of INR 24.75 crores in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
For the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) the auction was held outside India (in Dubai). The IPL mini-auction 2024 saw a huge amount of money being spent on players. Two Australian world champions conquered the room and walked out with heavy money in their pockets. Australian skipper Pat Cummins was the first-ever player to get an INR 20-crore bid in the league’s history.
In the last 3-4 seasons, heavy amounts have been spent on players at the auction and in retention. The IPL 2024 began on 22nd March in Chennai with a high-voltage clash between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. 10. Ishan Kishan (MI) – INR 15.25 crores
Ishan Kishan is currently under fire for skipping Indian domestic tournaments. But, Kishan was once among the most expensive players after the IPL mega auction 2022.
Ishan Kishan was released by Mumbai Indians due to the restriction of retaining only four players ahead of the mega auction, but Mumbai purchased him for INR 15.25 crores.
9. Ravindra Jadeja (CSK) – INR 16 crores
Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was retained by them as first priority player ahead of the IPL mega auction in 2022. He was also made the captain of the side that season.
Chennai Super Kings paid INR 16 crores to Ravindra Jadeja as his salary. Jadeja gets more than former CSK skipper MS Dhoni who won five IPL titles with the team.
8. Rishabh Pant (DC) – INR 16 crores
Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant was also retained as first priority player being the skipper of the side. Pant led Delhi Capitals to the playoffs in IPL 2021.
The Capitals pay INR 16 crores to Rishabh Pant as his salary in the Indian Premier League. Pant was out of IPL 2023 due to a massive car accident he suffered in December 2022.
7. Rohit Sharma (MI) – INR 16 crores
Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was replaced as captain of the side by Hardik Pandya a few months ago. Sharma was Mumbai’s first choice in retention ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and he was paid INR 16 crores by the franchise.
He is currently seventh among players with the highest salaries in IPL 2024. Rohit Sharma will play as a pure batter for Mumbai in IPL 2024.
6. Nicholas Pooran (LSG) – INR 16 crores
Nicholas Pooran is one of the finest and most sought-after middle-order batters in T20 cricket. The West Indian is also among the players with the highest salaries in the Indian Premier League.
Nicholas Pooran was purchased for INR 16 crores by Lucknow Super Giants at the IPL 2023 mini-auction. Recently, Lucknow announced Pooran as their vice-captain.
5. KL Rahul (LSG) – INR 17 crores
KL Rahul was a draft pick by Lucknow Super Giants from Punjab Kings. KL Rahul was leading the Punjab Kings side till IPL 2021. Lucknow Super Giants made their debut in IPL 2022 where they were given an option to pick some players from the draft.
KL Rahul was their first choice and highest paid player with INR 17 crores salary. Rahul is also captain of the Lucknow Super Giants.
4. Cameron Green (RCB) – INR 17.5 crores
Cameron Green was part of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 and did a terrific job for the franchise. Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bengaluru for INR 17.5 crores to make way for all-rounder Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans. Cameron Green will be playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024.
3. Sam Curran (PBKS) – INR 18.5 crores
Punjab Kings all-rounder Sam Curran was the IPL’s most expensive player until two Australians broke the record. The Kings spent INR 18.5 crores on the English all-rounder who had a terrific ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
Sam Curran attracted bids from several teams, but the Punjab Kings’ paddle was the match-winner on the day.
2. Pat Cummins (SRH) – INR 20.5 crores
Australian skipper Pat Cummins had a magnificent year of 2023 and attracted the second-highest bid in the Indian Premier League. Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased Cummins for INR 20.5 crores and he became the first-ever player to get more than INR 20-crore in the IPL.
Cummins won two ICC titles as captain of Australia. He won the ICC World Test Championship as well as ODI World Cup 2023 and was also appointed to lead his new IPL franchise.
1. Mitchell Starc (KKR) – INR 24.75 crores
Just after Pat Cummins’ INR 20.5 crores bid, his teammate Mitchell Starc became the highest paid player in the IPL.
Starc earned INR 24.75 crores from two-time Indian Premier League title winners Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR and Gujarat Titans had a tough bidding war with each other before Kolkata placed the winning bid.
