PV Sindhu and the women’s cricket team have secured historic wins recently
PM Narendra Modi congratulated badminton star PV Sindhu and the Indian women’s cricket team on Sunday for their recent historic achievements.
Speaking during the 136th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Modi discussed the nation’s achievements in sports in the previous month, while also extending his best wishes to the Indian contingent competing at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Narendra Modi shared the episode on his social media accounts. He highlighted Sindhu’s Japan Open 2026 title win as well as India’s 270-run win over England in the women’s Test at Lord’s Stadium.
“Our youth have achieved many remarkable feats in sports in recent times. PV Sindhu became the first Indian to win Japan Open title. Entire country is proud of her achievement,” Modi said. “Indian women’s cricket team also won their first Test match in London’s Lord’s Stadium. Our team has won with a huge margin of 270 runs.”
“But that’s not it. In the long history of Lord’s, this was the first Test match of the women’s team. On this very ground, India won its first Cricket World Cup in 1983,” he continued. “Now, our women power has brought glory to the nation.”

Modi extends best wishes for Commonwealth Games 2026
The Prime Minister also spoke about the ongoing CWG 2026 in Glasgow. The country had planned to send a 126-member contingent to the tournament, although it was reduced due to several doping violations.
“A few days back, the Commonwealth Games began in Glasgow,” the PM said. “Every countryman is constantly extending their best wishes to the Indian contingent. Their wish is that every player and athlete delivers outstanding performance and wins people’s hearts.”
India have made a winning start to the tournament, with para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar clinching a bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight event. Other medal contenders, including Mirabai Chanu and Neeraj Chopra, will also take part in their respective events in the coming days.
