Apart from Chanu, two more weightlifters—Rishikanta Singh Chanabam and Raja Muthupandi — will also contest for medals in their respective weightlifting categories.
Having won no medals on Saturday (July 25), the Indian contingent will hope to add to their tally on Day 3 of the quadrennial event.

Also in action will be the gymnasts in individual finals. While Tapan Mohanty and Yogeshwar Singh will represent the nation in the men’s all-around final, the women’s division will be represented by Pranati Nayak and Protistha Samanta.
There could also be medals in swimming if the Indian men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team qualify for the medal event. The quartet of Srihari Nataraj, Aryan Nehra, Aneesh S Gowda, Dhakshan Sashikumar will be in action in heats in the afternoon, with the medal event set for midnight (Indian Timing).
India have so far only won one medal after two days of competition— a bronze in para-powerlifting. Jhandu Kumar clinched the medal in men’s heavyweight category, lifting 190 kg for his maiden CWG medal. His bronze has put India on the medal tally chart, where they are joint-10th alongside Malaysia and Northern Ireland at the end of day 2.
