Prithvi Shaw played his last Test for India in December 2020 against Australia.

There have been a number of Indian players who have featured in County cricket over the years. Cheteshwar Pujara and Arshdeep Singh are currently part of the ongoing County Championship in England. And one more name is getting added to this list. Indian young opener Prithvi Shaw is about to start his county stint with Northamptonshire after the conclusion of the ongoing Duleep Trophy in India.

The Duleep Trophy 2023–24 began on June 28 and will conclude on July 16. Shaw has been out of the Indian team for quite some time now. He played his last test match for India in December 2023 against Australia, when India got all out for 26 runs at Adelaide Oval. He has played five tests for India and scored 339 runs at an average of 42.37, with one century and two half-centuries.

Prithvi Shaw will start his first County stint with Northamptonshire

Notably, Shaw will not be the only one to play for Northamptonshire in the English County Championship. Former Indian captains like Sourav Ganguly, Bishan Singh Bedi, and Anil Kumble have also played for this team. As reported by the Times of India, Shaw will feature in four-day County games and the 50-over tournament, the Royal London One-Day Cup.

The report quoted, "Prithvi Shaw will be playing in four-day County Championship matches and in the Royal London One-Day Cup (50 overs tournament). Before that, he will play in the Duleep Trophy semi-final (against Central Zone), and if necessary, in the final (July 12-16)."

Shaw was at his absolute best in the last edition of the Ranji Trophy Season. He registered his career-best score of 379 runs off 383 balls in an inning against Assam. He also went past Sanjay Manjrekar to register the highest individual score by a Mumbai batter in a Ranji innings. Manjrekar held the previous record with 377 runs. Shaw's 379 was also the second-highest score by a batter in premier first-class history. But his performance for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 was below par; he managed only 106 runs in 8 innings at an average of 13.25.
