Ollie Pope sustained a shoulder injury while fielding on Day 3 of the ongoing Lord's Test between England and Australia.

The second game between England and Australia of the five-match Ashes 2023 is underway at the Lord's. The visitors are in the driving seat after dismissing the hosts for 325 runs in the first innings and taking a healthy 91-run lead in the first innings. England suffered a batting collapse in the first session of Day 3 and lost their last six wickets for just 46 runs.

The English bowlers also struggled throughout the day, and Australia got an edge. Australia have totally dominated the second test so far, and England are struggling with various issues. Adding to that, English vice-captain Ollie Pope who suffered a shoulder injury while fielding on Day 3, is still forced to field, as confirmed by England's spin bowling coach Jeetan Patel on Friday.

"We're probably as frustrated as everyone else"- Spin-bowling coach on Ollie Pope's injury

Ollie Pope suffered a shoulder injury during the first innings of the second test. He got injured in an attempt to make a dive to stop the ball, but landed awkwardly on his shoulder. He went off the field and applied ice to get relief. Notably, he then came at No. 3 to bat in England's first innings without showing any sign of discomfort.

However, in Australia's second innings during the 18th over, he re-aggravated that injury once again and was expected to leave the field for a precautionary break. But the on-field umpires didn't allow him, and he was forced to stay on the crease and field, or the hosts would have to field with ten players, which sounds a bit strange to the English camp.

In an interaction, Jeetan Patel said, "We're a bit bewildered by it all. It's a bit confusing. We assumed that he was asked that he had to be back out on the field or we would have to field with ten men. And that made no sense to us. It's a bit messy if I'm being honest with you. We're probably as frustrated as everyone else that was out there that saw what happened, and he's probably more angry at the situation than anything else."

The visitors have stretched their lead to around 300, as per the current scorecard. They will look to bat for another session to take this lead over 400 runs and set a huge target for England. However, Jeetan believes that Pope will be okay to bat in the second innings and said, "With an opportunity to win a game, I can't see Ollie Pope saying no to that."
