R Ashwin sets sights on Courtney Walsh and Nathan Lyon's records during IND vs BAN test series

R Ashwin has picked 744 wickets in 281 international matches across formats.
Indian cricket team senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will aim to go past the tally of test wickets of former West Indian pacer Courtney Walsh and Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon during the upcoming two-match test series against Bangladesh.
The opening fixture of the two-match series will start on September 19 in Chennai. The second match of the series will be played from September 27 in Kanpur. Both teams have announced their squads.
Ravichandran Ashwin is recognized as one of the greatest off-spinners in test history. The veteran cricketer has been the backbone of the Indian cricket team for many years and has regularly produced match-winning efforts with the ball, especially in Asian conditions.
The 37-year-old R Ashwin has taken 744 wickets in 281 international matches across all formats. In the two-match test series against Bangladesh, he would be eyeing the bowling records of Walsh and Lyon.
Ashwin looks to surpass Walsh and Lyon’s wickets tally in tests during the IND vs BAN series
During the two-match test series against Bangladesh, India’s off-spinner R Ashwin could become the seventh-highest wicket-taker in test cricket, if he surpasses legendary seamer Walsh and Australia’s spinner Lyon.
Currently, Ashwin is ranked ninth with 516 wickets to his name in the longest format. He just needs four wickets to surpass Walsh’s tally of 519 scalps, who is placed eighth, and 15 wickets to go past Lyon’s 530 wickets.
Walsh picked 519 wickets in 132 test matches. Lyon has played 129 tests and has 530 dismissals to his name till now. Meanwhile, Ravi Ashwin has scalped 516 test wickets in 100 matches so far.
