Rahul Dravid was awarded INR 5 crores by BCCI after India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Rahul Dravid, the former India head coach, has once again shown why he is regarded as such a gentleman and a team player. Dravid, whose tenure as head coach ended with India winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, has declined BCCI’s extra bonus.

A day after India won the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final at the Kensington Oval, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said the team would be rewarded with a whopping cash prize of Rs 125 crores in total.

Later, as per reports, the reward was distributed amongst all the players, the head coach, support staff, and entire contingent.

As per the distribution model, head coach Dravid and all the 15 members of the squad were to get Rs 5 crores each, while the other support staff including batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T. Dilip, and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey were to receive Rs 2.5 crore each.

Rahul Dravid opts for equal reward amount for all coaching staff instead of his extra bonus

However, the former India captain and outgoing coach Rahul Dravid has refused to take the additional ₹2.5 crores that the BCCI was going to award him. The traveling members of the squad will be richer by ₹1 crore each.

“Rahul wanted the same bonus money ( ₹2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments,” a BCCI source said as per Hindustan Times.

This is not the first time Rahul Dravid has taken such a stand. When the India U19 team became the World champions in 2018, BCCI awarded Rahul Dravid ₹50 lakhs while the other members of the support staff would get ₹20 lakh each and the players ₹30 lakh each.

However, Dravid had refused the bonus and opted for the same pay as the rest of the coaching staff.
