The Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season will be played from October 2024 to March 2025 in two phases.

India’s premier red-ball domestic tournament, the Ranji Trophy will get underway on October 11, 2024, and will be played in two legs, with the final slated for February next year.

This season’s tournament will be the 90th edition of the Ranji Trophy. Mumbai enter the competition as the defending champions.

The first leg of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season will be played in October and November 2024. After that, the focus will shift towards the white-ball tournaments – the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) (T20) and the Vijay Hazare Trophy (50-over).

The SMAT will be played from November 13 to December 15, followed by the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which will run from December 21 to January 18, 2025.

After the end of both white-ball tournaments, the second phase of the Ranji Trophy will resume on January 23, 2025, with the final match scheduled to start on February 26, 2025.

Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Format

The Ranji Trophy 2024-25 has two divisions: Elite and Plate. 32 sides are in the Elite category, whereas six teams are placed in the Plate category.

The Elite category teams will play one game against each opponent in their respective groups. The top two sides will enter the quarter-finals, which will be followed by semi-finals and final.

The bottom two teams of all four Elite groups combined will be demoted to the Plate division in the next season of the Ranji Trophy.

Meanwhile, the Plate division has one group of six teams. These six teams will play one match against each other in a round-robin format. The top four sides in the group then move towards the semi-finals, followed by the final. The finalists in the Plate division will earn promotion to the Elite division for the next Ranji Trophy season.
