The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the sacking of Brendon McCullum as the head coach of the England Test team. This comes after the recent hammering by New Zealand, who won the Test series in England by margin of 2–1.
England Test captain Ben Stokes also announced his retirement a day before the final Test match, bringing an end to his 15-year international career. The departure of Stokes and McCullum from the helm of the England Test team has brought an end to an era. They were credited for reviving England’s Test cricket after the team had been struggling before their appointments.
However, the Bazball era came to an end after a series of disappointing performances, both overseas and at home, including the 1–4 Ashes defeat in Australia. Brendon McCullum will continue as the head coach of England’s white-ball teams but will no longer serve as the head coach of the Test team.
This leaves a vacant position, and the ECB will now be looking for a suitable candidate to take over as the head coach of the England Test team.

According to Johns, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is eyeing Ravi Ashwin to be the head coach of the Test team. He stated that a meeting also happened in the US, where Ashwin played the Major League Cricket, representing the San Francisco Unicorns.
Ashwin has had a legendary career for India as a player spanning over 14 years. He is one of the few bowlers with more than 500 wickets in Test cricket. Ever since he retired from international cricket, Ashwin has been all over social media, mainly because of his YouTube channel, where he still talks about all the cricket happening around the world and analyses it.
He also plays in other leagues around the world. Although he had to pull out of the BBL due to an injury, he recently played in the MLC in the United States of America. He totally understands the nature of red-ball cricket and is famously known for his cricketing brain.
The appointment of Ravi Ashwin as the England Test team’s head coach may solve their problems. With the Ashes scheduled for next year and World Test Championship qualification on the line, the England team need to be fully prepared.
It is also interesting to see who will be the new captain of the team. The rumours are that Harry Brook may become the captain of the Test team as well. If that happens, he will become the all-format captain of the team.
