Under Ravi Shastri’s tenure as head coach, India won two test series in Australia.

1983 World Cup-winning player and former Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri has dropped a major hint about coaching an Indian Premier League (IPL) team. The former cricketer coached the Men in Blue from 2017 to 2021.

Under Ravi Shastri’s guidance, India became the first Asian side to defeat Australia in their country in test cricket. They achieved the historic feat during the 2018–19 series. Under Shastri’s coaching, India repeated it again when they hammered Australia in 2021 test series. During his tenure, India also defeated Australia at the Gabba, where they hadn’t lost a test for 33 years.

Under Shastri’s tenure, India reached the ODI World Cup 2019 semi-final and also played the inaugural World Test Championship (2019-21) final against New Zealand. However, under his watch India couldn’t win any of the ICC tournaments.

After the end of his seven-year-long term with the Men in Blue as their head coach, Shastri went back to the commentary box.

Not really. Not after: Ravi Shastri on coaching an IPL team

In the latest show on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel, the Rajasthan Royals spinner asked about Shastri about coaching an IPL team. However, Shastri opened up that he wanted to stay away from the dressing rooms for a period of time.

“Not really. Not after doing India for 7 years. You never know what can come up in the future and how involved you are going to get,” Shastri said when asked about coach an IPL team after 2021.

“You know, there is no doubting the experience you have and what you can bring to the table, but after 7 years with the Indian team, especially those times — you were there — the toughest time that game has seen since the World War II — during Covid, quarantine and the bubbles, you just wanted ta break from the dugout, the dressing room and everything. The broadcasting and the mic gave me the freedom to express myself again. And have some fun,” Shastri added.

During Shastri’s tenure, India became one of the best test sides especially away from home.
