Ravi Shastri feels Rishabh Pant’s run-out was a big turning point in the Lord’s test.
Cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri has listed out two turning points in the Lord’s test that twisted the match in England’s favour. The hosts defeated India by 22 runs in a nail-biting clash, which went on to the final session of the fifth day.
Opting to bat first, England piled up 387/10 in the first innings. Later, India were also bowled out for 387 runs. In the second innings, England were bowled out for 192 runs, setting a 193-run target for India. Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes demolished the Indian batting unit, picking three wickets each in the second innings.
Towards the end, Ravindra Jadeja (61*), Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj kept the winning hopes alive with their fightback. However, England eventually tasted victory to gain a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Ravi Shastri lists out two turning points in the Lord’s test
While speaking on the ICC Review, former Indian coach Shastri pointed out two key moments from the Lord’s test. Shastri feels that Pant’s run-out in the first innings was a big turning point in the encounter.
“The turning point for me in this Test match was, first of all, Rishabh Pant’s dismissal [in the first innings]. Ben Stokes, simply outstanding presence of mind to hit at the right end and pull it off on the stroke of lunch. Because India would have got a lead and they were in the driver’s seat,” he said.

Shastri also added that Karun Nair’s dismissal in the second innings came as a big blow for India.
“Having said that, again at 40/1 [in the second innings], I thought that was a huge lapse in concentration from Karun Nair to leave a straight ball, a nothing ball, to leave it and open the door for England. I thought that the timing of that dismissal turned things around,” he added.
Shastri feels that India would have won the encounter if their top order had acted mentally stronger on day four.
“So it just goes to show that [if] the top order had just been a little tougher and mentally stronger on Day 4, towards the end, this game would have been India’s,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, England and India will now wrestle in the fourth test, scheduled to commence from July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester. England have added spinner Liam Dawson as a replacement for Shoaib Bashir in their squad for the fourth test.
