RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat reveals why they traded in Cameron Green from MI ahead of IPL 2024

Cameron Green has been traded to RCB from MI ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

November 26 saw some big turmoil among the ten franchises in the Indian Premier League. It was the last day to submit the sheets of retained and released players before the IPL 2024 auction. The auction for the 17th edition will take place in a couple of weeks in the UAE. Hence, some unexpected names were released who will come under the hammer, while some exciting players were transferred through the trade window.

Hardik Pandya, who was retained by the Gujarat Titans, was later traded to the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal. However, to trade in Hardik, MI needed to release some players, and they released Jofra Archer and traded Cameron Green. Archer will enter the auction, while Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping INR 17.5 crore.

RCB also released a number of players, including Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga. But signing Green came as a surprise to many fans, and it came at a massive price. However, RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat has now revealed the reason behind trading in Green from MI ahead of the IPL 2024. He said that Green’s skillset is a perfect fit for RCB at the moment.

Speaking to RCB Bold Diaries, Mo said that Green is an ideal player for the middle order, and being a power-hitter, he will enjoy batting at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He stated, “Cameron Green is the ideal fit for us in that middle-order power role. He is a high-quality, skillful and powerful batsman. I am sure he will enjoy batting at the Chinnaswamy. He is also a fantastic bowler and he bowls with pace and bounce, which were certainly attributes we were looking for, particularly in our home conditions. Let us not forget what an exceptional fielder he is.”

Green was part of Australia’s squad that recently won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Though he didn’t play many games, he is in Australia’s scheme of things across formats. In his debut IPL season for MI, he played 16 games and scored 452 runs at an average and strike rate of 50.22 and 160.28, respectively. Cameron Green scored a hundred in a must-win match, which helped MI qualify for the playoffs.
