The first semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand is underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It started with Rohit Sharma, who gave another quick start, and later Virat Kohli took the innings forward and registered his 50th ODI hundred.

Virat Kohli was at his absolute best and showed the world why he is the real king. He got out after scoring 117 runs off 113 balls, with nine fours and two sixes. With his 49th ODI ton on his 35th birthday at the Eden Gardens, Virat Kohli equaled his idol Sachin Tendulkar for the record of the joint-most ODI hundreds in history. But with his hundred against New Zealand, he has taken a giant step in history to become the only batter in the world to score 50 ODI tons, and he still has a few years left in him.

Virat is currently at the top of the list with the most runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He has scored 711 runs at an impressive average of 101.57 and a strike rate of 90.68 with three centuries and five fifties. With this, he broke Sachin’s other record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup. Sachin made 673 runs in the 2003 edition, and Virat has now become the first player to score over 700 runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

Before the innings against New Zealand, Virat Kohli was the fourth-highest run-getter in ODI cricket history. But now he went past Ricky Ponting to become the third-highest run-getter in ODIs. Ponting scored 13704 runs. Virat has now made 13794 runs.

With so many runs in the tournament, Virat has also become the first ever batter to score more than 700 runs in a single edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup. No other batter has ever done that in history. Indian batter has scored 711 runs in just 10 innings with three hundreds and five half-centuries.
