Rishabh Pant reveals MS Dhoni's importance in his cricketing career
Rishabh Pant made his return to competitive cricket during IPL 2024.
After a traumatic accident in 2022, Rishabh Pant has staged an extraordinary recovery and made a triumphant return to cricket in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Moreover, he was re-appointed captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) after missing the last season due to injury. His impressive performance so far suggests that if he maintains his current form, he may be considered for selection in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad as well.
In a recent chat with Star Sports, Pant talked about advice he received from MS Dhoni. Dhoni always emphasizes focusing on what you can control. Pant stressed the importance of concentrating on your game, practice, and execution during matches instead of worrying about outside criticism. He mentioned that he assesses risks and rewards carefully while playing and remains committed to giving his best on the field despite facing criticism.
“Mahi (Dhoni) bhai always says one thing that focus on controllables. So it is the same that you are doing your thought process on your cricket, the work you are doing, the practice you are doing,” said Rishabh Pant during a recent interaction.
“You are implementing in the match. Focus on that rather than if someone is criticizing you from outside. Thought process, I think you think this is high risk, high reward. I think I am playing normally. I am not taking any risky shots. According to me, I calculate everything. Whatever knowledge I have according to the game. That this can happen in this position, this can’t happen,” the DC captain further said.
“It is important to play well. There will be criticism but don’t focus on what people are saying. I am giving my 100% on the field. That is important for me. And I don’t lie about it. So I am fine with it,” he added.
Pant expressed how the guidance of former Indian and Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni, strengthened his gameplay prior to facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming IPL match.
The Delhi Capitals have had varying outcomes under his leadership, with four out of seven matches resulting in losses. At the personal level, Pant has served as a motivating force. He returned after recovering from injuries he sustained in a car accident that occurred in December 2022. In seven matches, he has accumulated a total of 210 runs and achieved two 50+ scores.
