The current BCCI secretary Jay Shah will reportedly become the next ICC chairman, replacing Greg Barclay.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley is considered the leading candidate to take up the post of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary should its current holder, Jay Shah, become the new ICC chairman.

Earlier this month, the ICC confirmed that Greg Barclay won’t be seeking another term as the chairman and the governing council has invited nominations for the election. Barclay’s term will end in November and the new chairman will begin his/her tenure in December.

Shah, who is also the head of ICC’s Finance & Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee, is believed to file his nomination soon and is unlikely to be opposed. For the election to happen, there should be more than one candidate.

So far, four Indian administrators have been ICC chairman: N Srinivasan, Shashank Manohar, Sharad Pawar and Jagmohan Dalmiya. If Shah does get the position, he will become the ICC’s youngest Chair at the age of 35.

Jay Shah cannot hold two positions and will have to vacate BCCI secretary post

In 2016, the ICC Chair became an independent post, which means the elected candidate cannot hold two offices. Therefore, if Shah gets elected, he will have to leave his post as BCCI secretary.

According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, Rohan, the son of late politician Arun Jaitely, is likely to take up the board secretary post once Shah resigns.

BCCI’s treasurer Ashish Shelar and joint secretary Devajit Saikia are also believed to be candidates to replace Shah.
