Rohit Sharma becomes joint fastest player to reach 1000 runs in World Cup

Rohit Sharma has also become the 4th Indian batter to score 1000 World Cup runs. Rohit needed 22 runs before Afghanistan game to complete his 1000 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Rohit has joined the elite list of just three Indian batters who scored 1,000 runs in the World Cup tournament. Before Rohit, Sachin Tendulkar (2278), Virat Kohli (1115), and Sourav Ganguly (1006) touched this milestone.

Rohit Sharma currently stands third on this list, as he is making it big against Afghanistan in Delhi. Rohit immediately overtook former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, marching ahead comfortably. Rohit Sharma made his World Cup debut in the 2015 World Cup, played in Australia and New Zealand. He scored 331 runs in that edition, as India were knocked out in the semi-finals.

Wonderful record in the mega event

Indian captain had a terrific campaign in the 2019 World Cup, as he ended up being the leading run-scorer in that edition with 647 runs and 5 centuries in 10 games. He took just 19 innings in the tournament's history to complete 1000 runs. Rohit is the quickest Indian batter to reach this milestone in the mega event. He also equaled the record for quickest overall with David Warner (19 innings).

Afghanistan posted 272 runs on the board, and India need 273 runs to remain unbeaten in the ongoing campaign. India defeated Australia in their opening encounter played at Chepauk in Chennai, and here in Delhi, they are once again looking strong. Rohit Sharma has also broken the record for smashing the most number of sixes in international cricket.
