Rohit Sharma likely to feature in ODI series against Sri Lanka
On July 16, 2024, the Indian Express reported that the newly-appointed India head coach Gautam Gambhir wants senior cricketers Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah to play in the upcoming away ODI series against Sri Lanka.
The report further added that Gambhir requested it because after India’s tour of Sri Lanka, India will have only a few ODI matches until the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The Men in Blue will also get a long break following the Sri Lanka tour ahead of the upcoming home season of 2024–25.
According to a latest report by Cricbuzz, Rohit might make himself available for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The report further added that the veteran Indian cricketer is currently on holiday in the US and is expected to inform the BCCI of his availability soon before the next meeting.
Cricbuzz further stated that if Sharma plays the Sri Lanka ODIs, he will lead the side, otherwise KL Rahul is the front-runner to take the leadership responsibilities in the three-match ODI series.
