Rohit Sharma slammed the quickest half-century of his career off 35 balls in 2nd Test vs WI.

The fourth day of the ongoing second test between India and the West Indies in Trinidad has helped the visitors inch closer to another win. The day started with the hosts at 229/5, but they couldn't have much; Mohammed Siraj and Mukesh Kumar didn't let the batters score runs. Siraj picked up his second test fifer and took 5/60. India got a first-innings lead of 183 runs.

In response, India batted to score quick runs. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 98 runs for the first wicket in just 11.4 overs before the Indian captain got out, trying to hit another boundary. But before getting out, he scored the quickest half-century of his test career, off just 35 balls. Rohit Sharma made 57 off 44 balls, with three sixes and five boundaries. Jaiswal made 38 off 30, with one six and four boundaries.

Rohit Sharma surpasses Mahela Jayawardene's all-time record in Test cricket

India reached 100 in just 12.2 overs, which is just 74 balls, and registered the fastest team's 100 in a test. They beat Sri Lanka's record of 100 off 80 balls against Bangladesh in 2001. Meanwhile, with his half-century, Rohit Sharma also went past the former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene's record in Test cricket. Rohit has now registered the most consecutive test innings with double-digit scores. Earlier, Jayawardene scored in double digits in 29 consecutive innings.

With his fifty in the second innings, Rohit has scored in double digits in the last 30 innings, surpassing that record. England's Len Hutton (26 innings), West Indies' Rohan Kanhai (26 innings), and South Africa's AB de Villiers (24 innings) are other players on this list. Rohit's last single digit score came in 2021 at MA Chidambaram Stadium against England, when he got out off Jofra Archer for six runs.
