India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma is set to undergo his fitness assessment tests at Board of Control for Cricket In India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on September 13, according to a report in the Times of India. Earlier, there were reports which claimed that his fitness test would be done on 31st August.

India’s captain Rohit Sharma last played for the team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tournament. India won the tournament by defeating New Zealand in the final, and Rohit was named the Player of the Match in the summit clash. This was Rohit’s second ICC title as India captain, after they had won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.

He has amassed 1714 runs at an average of 48.97 and a strike rate of 117.2 in 38 games since 2023. He has been even more effective in the power play, averaging 67.41 and hitting at 122.57. He is the only batsman in this phase to have scored over 1000 runs.

The Times of India report stated that Rohit Sharma has begun preparations for the Australia ODI tour in October. Alongside his close buddy and former India assistant coach Abhishek Nair, Rohit has been training at the BKC facility run by the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Meanwhile, the TOI report confirmed that Rohit Sharma will visit the BCCI COE facility in Bengaluru for fitness tests and further training.

Yes, Rohit will be at the BCCI’s CoE from September 13 for fitness tests. He will be based here for two to three days and will also practice at the facility to fine-tune his preparations for the Australia white-ball tour in November. With the CoE also staging the Duleep Trophy final at its main ground (A) from September 11 to 15, Rohit will undergo fitness tests and train at a different ground at the same facility,” a source told TOI.

The 38-year-old must pass the recently added Bronco exam, which was put in place under the direction of India’s strength and conditioning coach, Adrian Le Roux, in addition to the standard Yo-Yo test.

The Bronco test is a hard aerobic running assessment where participants have to complete a sequence of shuttle runs over 60 m, 40 m, and 20 m for five sets. The participants aim to complete the test in as quick a time as possible. The total distance covered in the drill is 1200 meters.

Rohit Sharma last played competitive cricket in IPL 2025, scoring 418 runs at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.28. However, his ODI numbers are top-notch: 1714 runs in 38 matches at an average of 48.97 and a strike rate of 117.2 since 2023.
