Rohit Sharma will lead India at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
We are at that stage of the year when the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will kick off in a couple of days. The multi-nation tournament will start from June 1. It will be co hosted by West Indies and USA. Team India has already reached New York to prepare for the warm-up game that will see them face the Bangladesh.
India will kickoff their campaign in a game against Ireland at the newly built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Moreover, the high profile, India vs Pakistan game is also set to take place in the same ground.
As it is a make shift stadium, no one is aware of what the conditions will be like and how the pitch will behave. So, it is important to get used to the conditions before the tournament kicks off.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma, talked about the same thing. He stated that he and his team will try to first get used to the conditions in the practice sessions and the warm-up game before they play their opening game against Ireland in the newly built stadium. Rohit Sharma wants to get into the rhythm of the game, wants to get a feel of the ground’s dimension and how the conditions will be while playing in the ground.
“We’re looking to understand the conditions more importantly (before the tournament proper) as we haven’t been here before. (We will) try and make the most of the conditions, get used to what it’s going to be like on June 5 when we play our first game. It’s just about getting into that rhythm of getting the feel of the ground, pitch and stuff like that,” Rohit Sharma said to the ICC.
Rohit also said that he can’t wait to play their first game in the newly built stadium in New York. He called it a beautiful and an open ground. he also expressed enthusiasm in the fact that the people in New York will be excited to come and watch the high profile teams play out in the mega tournament. The Indian Cricket Team is excited to get going in the new ground in New York.
“It looks beautiful. It’s quite an open ground. When we come here and play our first game, I just can’t wait to feel the atmosphere in the stadium. It’s a decent capacity as well. Hopefully, it’s gonna be a good one.” Rohit hoped that fans will throng the venue for their matches. People in New York will be very interested in coming and watching the World Cup, as it is happening for the first time here. I’m pretty sure all the fans across various teams are quite excited and looking forward to this tournament. And also as players (we) can’t wait to get started,” Rohit added.
