Rohit Sharma reclaimed the top spot from Daryl Mitchell.

The former India captain, Rohit Sharma, is back to being the No.1 batter in One-Day Internationals rankings. The 38-year-old recently became the No.1 ODI batter for the first time in his career. However, his stay at the top was short-lived as Daryl Mithcell overtook him after his heroics in the West Indies series.

Rohit Sharma is all set to be back in action as India take on South Africa after a whitewash in the test series. The Men in Blue will start the ODI series in Ranchi on October 30. This series will be another important one for Rohit as he aims to be a part of the squad for ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa.

Rohit Sharma has benefited from the unfortunate injury that Daryl Mitchell suffered in the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies. Mitchell missed out on the last two matches in the ODI series which cost him rating points.

Rohit now has 781 rating points and is closely followed by Daryl Mitchell with 766 points. These are only two spots in the top five that saw a change. India have two other names in the top five with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in fourth and fifth position, respectively. Shreyas Iyer has dropped one position and sits in ninth in the latest rankings.

Rohit Sharma will hold key for India in the ODI series against South Africa

The Proteas, fresh from their historic test series win, are waiting to test India’s strength in ODIs, a format in which India have been exceptional for the last few years. India and South Africa will lock horns in a three-match ODI series, starting in Ranchi. The last two games will be played 3 and 6 December in Raipur and Vishakhpatnam respectively.

His exploits in Australia helped him achieve the top ranking in ODI cricket. Rohit will be eager to replicate those heroics in the South Africa series and stay at the top.
