Joe Root withdraws from the IPL 2024
Joe Root, who didn’t feature in the Indian Premier League before the last season, made his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals in 2023. He has decided to pull out of the coming season and informed the franchise before the final retention deadline. England’s managing director, Rob Key, said that Root asked for a break after the World Cup 2023, which is why he is not part of the Caribbean tour.
The Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, said that Joe Root informed them before about his decision. He also said that Root’s presence in the squad gave them a big boost, that he will be missed, and that RR respects his decision. The English star was part of a few games, but he has been playing some back-to-back series or tournaments.
The Rajasthan franchise said, “The 32-year-old’s addition to the Royals squad brought in plenty of depth and experience, which served as a learning experience for a lot of youngsters in the side like Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team. His camaraderie with his England teammate Jos Buttler and his bonding with Yuzvendra Chahal was also one of the memorable highlights.” RR have been active ahead of the retention deadline and they have traded Avesh Khan in place of Devdutt Padikkal from LSG.
