The ICC WTC 2023-25 final, SA vs AUS, has been enthralling to watch with both teams having their moments.
The Lord’s Cricket Ground in London is hosting the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 between the South Africa Cricket Team and the Australia Cricket Team. Both teams battled hard over the first two days, and the action now moves towards day three.
After an enthralling day one, which saw as many as 14 wickets falling, day two threw even more exciting challenges for both teams. Resuming at the overnight score of 43 for four, South Africa’s woes with the bat continued even after the decent batting effort from skipper Temba Bavuma (36) and David Bedingham (46).
Australia skipper Pat Cummins led from the front with the ball as he picked a six-fer, becoming the first bowler to achieve the feat in the ICC WTC finals. Mitchell Starc also bagged three wickets as the defending champions wrapped up South Africa’s innings for 138 runs, taking a lead of 74 runs.
In the second innings of the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, South Africa displayed another magical effort with the ball. Usman Khawaja (6) and Marnus Labuschagne (22) looked decent for their 28-run opening stand, but the wicket of the left-hander opened the floodgates for Australia.
Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi combined to put Australia under pressure, leaving them at 73 for seven. Alex Carey (43) batted brilliantly to extend the lead past 200 runs, but his wicket came in the last hour, again putting the defending champions on the back foot.
At stumps on day two, Australia were at 144 for eight with a lead of 218 runs. South Africa would be keen to wrap up the opposition’s innings as quickly as possible on day three and give them a chance to chase the target and end their ICC title drought.
Australia, however, on the other hand, would be confident of defending a total over 200 over, especially with the way they performed with the ball in the first innings. With the way things are panning out, it’s fair to say that we can have our winners on day three itself.
