SA20 2025 Auction: Top 5 costliest buys at the auction

Three players were sold for more than Rand 1 million in the SA20 2025 auction.
The SA20 2025 player auction was held in Cape Town on Tuesday, October 1. After the auction, all six franchises finalized their squads for the upcoming 2025 edition. The SA20 2025 season is scheduled to start on January 9.
The six franchises β MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Joburg Super Kings, and Durban Super Giants β participated in the SA20 2025 player auction to complete their squads of 19 players each.
In this auction, only 13 slots were available to be filled across all six franchises while 180 local and international cricketers were available to be bought.

5. Shamar Joseph β Durban Super Giants (R425K)
West Indies star speedster Shamar Joseph was one of the big buys in the auction. The youngster was sold to Durban Super Giants for R425K. Shamar has good pace, and on South African pitches he can be dangerous for opposition teams.
He was West Indiesβ hero in their Gabba test win earlier this year against Australia.
4. Marques Ackerman β Pretoria Capitals (R800K)
The 28-year-old batter Marques Ackerman was signed by Pretoria Capitals at R800K, making him the fourth-costliest buy in the SA20 2025 player auction.
The middle-order batter has a decent record in South Africaβs domestic cricket. In 56 T20s, Ackerman has amassed 1039 runs at an average of 25.34, including six half-centuries.
3. Evin Lewis β Pretoria Capitals (R1.5million)
West Indies hard hitter Evin Lewis was picked by the Pretoria Capitals for R1.5 million. The veteran cricketer is the third-costliest buy in the SA20 2025 auction.
Lewis will bring a wealth of experience in both international cricket and T20 franchise leagues. The southpaw has played 237 T20s and amassed 6306 runs at an average of 29.46. The 32-year-old has smashed six centuries and 40 half-centuries in the shortest format.
2. Richard Gleeson β Sunrisers Eastern Cape (R2.3 million)
England speedster Richard Gleeson was the second-costliest buy in the SA20 2025 auction. Gleeson was signed by two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape for R2.3 million.
Previously, the 36-year-old had played in the SA20 for Durban. Gleeson played three matches and picked up five wickets at an economy of 8.41 in the SA20 for the Super Giants.
1. Reeza Hendricks β MI Cape Town (R4.30 million)
South Africa batsman Reeza Hendricks was the costliest buy in the SA20 2025 auction. Hendricks was sold to MI Cape Town for R4.3 million. In the 2023 and 2024 editions, Hendricks played for the Joburg Super Kings.
The opener has played 22 SA20 matches till now in which Hendricks scored 411 runs at an average of 24.17, including two half-centuries.
